Not So Crucial Tuesday Releases 6.17.08
This weeks DVD releases doesn’t see anything to exciting. Mostly just television season sets with a few notable features.
- Be Kind Rewind - Jack Black & Mos Def star as two New Jersey video store clerks that have to re-enact or all of the movies in their store after all of the videotapes get erased due to a freak magnetism accident. Directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind), “Be Kind Rewind” ends up being a bit of a letdown when compared to the filmmakers previous efforts. Although it’s not a great movie by most standards, it still exudes an innocence not found in a lot of movies these days. Definitely worth checking out, if not just for all of the re-enactments the two main characters put together for all of their customers.
- Fool’s Gold - Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson re-team after their successful 2003 outting, “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days”. I didn’t see this one and probably won’t. Everything I’ve heard about this movie has been extremely negative.
- Californication - Season One - I caught one or two episodes of this during its initial run. David Duchovny plays Hank Moody, a successful writer dealing with the fickleness that is Hollywood. If you like your David Duchovny, and your David Duchovny being an asshole, then I’d check this one out. I have it will only get better if it’s able to stay on the air.
- Jericho - The Complete Series - This is another one I’ve never seen, but I’ve been told is addicting as hell. I think it was better known for its constant on-the-air/off-the-air status, but now that it’s “officially” over, this should be a nice package to check out over a long weekend.
Other Notable Releases:
- Super High Me
- Popeye the Sailor: 1938-1940, Vol. 2
Feedback on any of this weeks new releases would be much appreciated.
